tiny asterism

a kind of time travel

it's weird and wild to look back at the snippets of my web presence that exist in fragments across old hard drives (and maybe archive.org). i see how much the same I am, and how different.

i've been thinking about the slow web, the tiny web, the indie web - whatever we're calling it, a lot lately. insomuch as "the internet" changed our lives when it first exploded, blogging was so pivotal to me that it takes center stage. i certainly wouldn't have the career i do without it. or the friends. or the memories.

and i think that is part of what is drawing me to participate again. to remember, yes, but to also just be a tiny piece of a tiny something that matters to me, and i think should matter to more. the early web was special and was threatened long before the rise of bots and llms. but in the face of accelerating threat, i want to be accelerating my response.

i'll stop now, lest this get way too dramatic for a wednesday evening, but i'm glad to be here.
